Morning Reflections
There’s a rare stillness that settles over the African plains at dawn—a hush broken only by the distant calls of birds and the soft rustle of grass. “Morning Reflections” was inspired by one of those quiet mornings, when I watched a pair of zebras approach a secluded waterhole as the first light crept across the landscape. The air was cool, the world painted in gentle blues and magentas, and for a brief time, everything felt suspended in possibility.
What struck me most was the gentle camaraderie between the zebras and the egrets that moved alongside them—two species sharing the same space, alert yet at ease in each other’s company. I wanted this painting to capture not just the beauty of the animals, but the sense of peace and connection that comes with a new day in the wild. Each brushstroke is a memory of that morning—the subtle tension as the zebras paused to drink, the interplay of light and shadow, and the feeling of being a silent witness to nature’s quiet rituals. My hope is that viewers can step into this scene and experience the wonder and serenity that inspired me.
